Just when you thought I couldn’t get more boring
But don’t worry, I’ll have something to talk about in the near future! The Scottsdale Knitting and Fiber Show is coming up a week from this Saturday. Then the following weekend, my hubby and are going to head up to San Francisco for a long weekend. I won’t get the chance to hook up with any of my knitting pals (sorry guys!), but I am planning to stop by and say hi to some of my old co-workers – not that the co-workers are old, just that I haven’t seen them in a while. (For those of you at GGU reading this, you’re the first to know!)
In another attempt to be less boring, I actually got out my wheel last night and did some spinning. And last weekend I met up with Eva to check out Tempe Yarn and Fiber. They’re a new shop, so they’re still a little light on inventory, of course. But they had some nice fibers, so I’m sure I’ll be visiting them frequently. By the way, Eva is a true friend. I showed her my Cyd vest in progress to see if she thought I need to rip out and start over on larger needles or if I could continue on in my state of denial. She knew which answer I wanted, but she was honest… and ripping out it will be.
Speaking of good friends, which I think all of you are, I need some book recommendations. I’m often not able to knit on the bus (crappy seat, need different needles, etc.) and so I always have a book with me. Well, I’m finished with all of my available books (I have plenty packed away around here, but by the time I dig them up we’ll have finally found a house and I would just need to re-pack them all again in order to move) and so I’m going to the library to check some out this weekend. Unfortunately, if I don’t have an idea of what I want, I just kind of wander aimlessly and I either end up leaving with nothing or some sort of fluff novels.  So I want to go in with a list of books to look for. I’ve decided it’s time I finally read Lord of the Flies (I know, I know). What other books would you guys recommend?

I’m not sure what type of books you read but my favorite series is the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. It’s a blend of historical fiction, fantasy with some romance thrown in to keep it interesting.
Books by Greg Rucka are fantastic. The first is Keeper but I recommend starting with Shooting at Midnight which is a bit of an offshoot but it gets you more intimate with the characters than the first book. The series is about a bodyguard named Atticus who gets himself into all kinds of trouble. The offshoot novel focuses on his on again/off again girlfriend Bridget who’s a private eye. The stories are gritty and they always win in the end but the price can be very high.

Yeah…Nancy is coming to GGU for a visit. I didn’t think I would be seeing you so soon. Please remember to come by to say “Hi” to me before you leave. Talk to you soon & see you in 2 weeks!

Well, for fun reading, I’d recommend checking out Sparkle Hayter’s Robin Hudson series. Fun, fun, fun, mysteries, but also very witty mysteries.
For fun non-fiction, I’d recommend “Devil in the White City” by someone whose name I can’t remember right now.
For a big old, grab your attention, make you think you can put off knitting for a while (yeah – THAT good), I’d recommend “The Historian” by Elizabeth Kostova.
Sigh…I love books.
