Just under the wire!

Sunday, April 30th, 2006

When we went to San Francisco earlier this month, I took a ton of pictures.  I’ve been slowly going through them trying to figure out which ones to post.  Because I had signed up for Project Spectrum right before leaving, I was very aware of yellow and orange while I was taking pictures.  Well, today is the last day of April, and I figured I had better get moving and post my pictures while there’s still time.  So, I’ll eventually be providing a wider variety of pictures (with more explanation), but for now… here’s my April Project Spectrum photos from San Francisco.

Yes, that last one is a picture of rust.  I’m telling you, Project Spectrum is cool because you become more aware of the colors around you.  Even in, well, rust.

By the way, I finished spinning my black alpaca fiber.  Now I get to ply with Mr. Plyer.  Woo Hoo!

Oh, and because I can’t resist a swap, I’ve joined the Knitters Tea Swap (assuming that I got my email in on time, that is).  I’ve already started to brainstorm on some tea/yarn ideas, which is probably jumping the gun since I should wait and see what my pal likes, huh?

And one other thing (and to think, when I first started to write this I couldn’t think of anything to talk about), we started house hunting again yesterday after having over a glorious month off.  We didn’t find anything that we wanted to put an offer on, but we did find two houses that were so close.  Unfortunately, one was too small and the other one was right up against a really busy major street.  We tried to creatively think of ways to make either of them work, but we finally gave up.  This gives me hope, however, that the house is out there!  I just wish it would be there sooner, ya know?

Sorry about the disappearing act

Every once in a while I need a break from things, even those things that I love.  I went through a non-knitting phase for a couple of months a while back.  This time it was a non-blogging phase.  I guess I just need to recharge my batteries from time to time.  Anyway, I’m back!

Before I took my break, I mentioned that I was going to check out the Arizona Knitting and Fiber show.  It was really, really small (maybe 20 or so vendors?), but I’m sure that Stitches started out small and look at it now!  Although I really wanted to buy some buffalo fiber, I would have only been able to afford about an ounce.  After talking to the vendor, though (whose name escapes me right now and whose card I can’t find at the moment), I discovered how difficult the fiber prep process is and why it costs so much.  Although I couldn’t afford any fiber at the show, I’ll definitely be putting it on my Xmas list (if I can find the guy’s card, which I know is somewhere in this house).  While I couldn’t afford buffalo fiber, I did get some other fibers.

Merino Superwash Wool, Llama/Soy Silk, Wool, Merino/Angora

I’m not sure when I’m going to actually spin this fiber, considering I’m still working on the alpaca I started when I first bought my wheel.  Speaking of… I have finished one bobbin, which is the brown alpaca,

and I’m about halfway through the black alpaca

which I’ll ply together using my new Mr. Plyer!

I need to finish Mr. Plyer, so he’ll look a little more fancy in the near future.

In the time since I last blogged, I also went to San Francisco for a quick weekend visit.  I have lots of pictures to show, which I’ve downloaded, but I haven’t gone through and resized them yet.  I even took some photos for Project Spectrum (which I joined in April) while there.  Seeing as how I’ve got a week left in April, I might be able to just squeeze them in.  But, um, not today.

I do have two photos I can show you as a sneak peek of my visit.  When we first got into town we took our rental car (which the rental guy upgraded to a convertible PT Cruiser even though it was too cold and wet to actually use without the top) to Fisherman’s Wharf.  We had lunch at a restaurant called Boudin.  This was the our view from our table.

I also took a picture of this…

It was this really cool painting in 3D style panels. Not sure why I liked it so much, but I did.

I’ll be sure to post more vacation photos (and some Spectrum photos) soon.

(By the way, in case you’re wondering… we haven’t found a house yet.  sigh…)

Happy Easter!

(I can’t even believe that I’m letting you see this picture…)

PS – Sorry about the unexpected hiatus.  I’ll be back soon.  Promise!
